Drake University’s law school library has given a valuable gift to an agency that suffered heavy losses on September eleventh. Librarian Deborah Sulzbach explains the request came by way of a computerized billboard on which libraries post their “needs and offers” for books.The U-S Customs library was destroyed Sept 11, and put up a request for materials that happened to be duplicated in Drake’s library. Sending an entire collection of reference books titled “Words and Phrases” won’t hurt the Drake collection, says Sulzbach.Retiring lawyers donate their books, and sometimes the law library ends up with several copies of a title. The library was in Number Six, World Trade Center; it now operates in a building in New York’s Penn Station. The Customs office is paying to ship the books Drake is donating. She says it would be expensive to replace the set, but librarians pitch in and help each other in the “library community.” The Ferdinand Gallozzi Library at the U-S Customs service is named after a clerk who worked there for more than twenty years.
