End of warmth is coming

December 21, 2001 By admin

Today is the official first day of winter, and state Climatologist Harry Hillaker says it won’t take long for the cold weather to kick in.A storm is on its way and should go through Iowa Saturday and Sunday and will leave us with more normal temperatures, with lows in the teens and highs in the 30’s. Hillaker says we’ve enjoyed un-winter like weather in the state to this point.Temperatures across the state have average 13-point-three degrees above normal. He says this weekend is just the start of the chilly winter weather. We could see the first sub-zero temperatures by the middle of next week. Hillaker says the storm could give us a white Christmas. He says have a White Christmas about 50 percent of the time in central Iowa, a third of the time in southern Iowa, and two-thirds of the time in northern Iowa.
