Iowa’s top angler says he’ll be ice-fishing this weekend, along with hundreds of others on Iowa’s lakes, rivers and streams. Marion Conover, chief of the D-N-R Fisheries division, says there’s already a good ice cover on most bodies of water statewide, but he says to proceed with caution. Many ponds and lakes already have four inches of ice, which Conover says is thick enough to support small groups of people, but not snowmobiles or ice fishing shacks. Those usually need about six inches.
