Tire company banded from accepting any more treads

December 27, 2001 By admin

State officials have ordered a central Iowa tire recycling facility to quit accepting tires. The emergency order was issued against the Bee Rite Tire processing facility near Rhodes, where a fire has been burning since Monday. The facility may not accept tires until managers meet all fire code rules and the fire’s out. The Department of Natural Resources fined Bee Rite 10-thousand dollars in May for a variety of fire code and safety violations. Last month the state moved to revoke Bee Rite’s operating permit because too many tires were on site. The company has appealed, and a hearing’s scheduled in February.
