A tiny town in northwest Iowa’s Pocahontas County has a new motto to start the New Year as it looks to attract new residents. The winner of the town vote is “Hometown with a Heart.” Fonda resident Denise Bass helped coordinate the two-month-long effort to find a new slogan for the community, as Fonda’s old motto “Everything Here Except Henry” needed to go. Most younger residents don’t know the actor, who died nearly 20 years ago, nor any of his actor offspring. Fonda was named for the town of Fonda, New York back in 1874. The largest employer in the town of 650 is a grain elevator. Bass hopes the new motto is one people will remember when they see it on the soon-to-be-painted sign along the highway, and that they’ll remember Fonda fondly.
