There’s a serious depression in eastern Iowa, and we’re not talking about the economy.A 100-foot-deep sinkhole is swallowing up a small barn on property owned by Theresa Durant of rural Scott County near Buffalo. Linwood Mining and Minerals is her neighbor. Durant’s husband had sold the mining rights to the limestone company about 15 years ago and now, several mines run under her land. One abandoned shaft is apparently caving in.
