Company plans to open new turkey processing plant

January 9, 2002 By admin

West Liberty Foods will open a facility in Mount Pleasant to slice turkey, starting in 2003. One-hundred-eight people will be employed initially. Four slicing lines will process cooked meat trucked in from plants in West Liberty and Sigourney. Local residents helped raise money for the building. Governor Tom Vilsack, who’s from Mount Pleasant, was on hand for today’s announcement.Vilsack says farming’s a tough business, but now farmers have a sense of hope because they see West Liberty’s success as a farmer-owned operation that profits from processing, too.
