It was a January 8th like no other in Iowa. Cities across the state set new record high temperatures yesterday as some cities saw the warmest readings ever for the month. Meteorologist Gary Forster at the National Weather Service office in Johnston says Des Moines had a record of 64, Waterloo hit 57, Mason City 54, Lamoni 62, Estherville 58 an Atlantic 61. Shenandoah was the hot spot in Iowa yesterday with 68 degrees. Miami, Florida, only had a high yesterday of 60.Forster says many of the record-setters had an unusual winter distinction, as they were the warmest temperatures ever for January.He says today the weather across much of Iowa will creep back toward normal.Shenandoah was the hot spot in Iowa yesterday with 68 degrees.
