Grinnell man appears in court on murder charge

A 20-year-old Grinnell man made his first court appearance this morning on a first-degree murder charge in the death of his three-month-old daughter. Shane Dupee was ordered held on a 250-thousand dollar bond. Grinnell police say Dupee lived with the child’s mother in Grinnell. Poweshiek County Attorney Mike Mahaffey says Grinnell Sergeant Randy Hansen is handling the investigation.Mahaffey says the investigation is still in the early stages, so he can’t say much about what the investigation has found yet.The child died Wednesday at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. Police had been called to the apartment on a report the child, which has not been identified, was not breathing.
