Webster City Middle School gets its picture on a 2002 calendar. Kelly Needles with “The Energy Group” says the federal Department of Energy has recognized the city in recent years for having a strong “energy efficiency ethic.”He says the department asked about energy-efficient schools and chose the town’s school to feature on a calendar being put together. Needles says ties between Webster City and the federal agency go way back.Several years ago the community was involved in the DOE’s “rebuild America” program and they still follow local energy projects. Needles says the middle school that opened in 1998 saves nearly 28-thousand dollars in energy costs a year with its geothermal heating, efficient lighting and an energy-management system.
