Afghani expert to speak at Wartburg

January 14, 2002 By admin

A top Afghani expert who’ll speak tomorrow (Jan 15) at Wartburg College in Waverly says the chosen leader of Afghanistan is a good man for the job. Dr. Abul Raheem Yaseer says the new Afghan president is a credible man with lots of support among Afghans in the international community, and has fought to liberate the country first from Russia and then the al-Qaeda. Yaseer says interim government chair Hamid Karzai is well educated and a good choice to rebuild the country.Yaseer says Karzai is “respectable” and despite some challenges he has good intentions and support from both inside Afghanistan and beyond. Dr Yaseer thinks we’ll eventually find Osama bin Laden. He thinks Pakistani intelligence knows where the guy is and what he eats for lunch, and the Dr. thinks Osama’s living in the wilderness in Pakistan. Yaseer will tell Wartburg students at next Tuesday’s lecture about the religion of Islam. He’ll talk about the Islamic teachings of peace, coexistence and tolerance for other faiths. Yaseer is assistant director of the Center for Afghanistan Studies at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. For information on his campus appearance, click on www.wartburg-dot-edu
