Governor wants new type of Vision Iowa program

January 18, 2002 By admin

Governor Tom Vilsack is calling for a new wrinkle in the state’s “Vision Iowa” program which gives state grants to large-scale community projects. Vilsack proposes that the state sell 99 million dollars worth of bonds, and hand the money out for projects in each of Iowa’s 99 counties. Vilsack says “Vision Iowa” has been one of the most positive things to happen lately in Iowa. Vilsack says thus far they haven’t been able to get the program going in all 99 counties.Vilsack says each of Iowa’s 99 counties could qualify for up to a million dollars for a local project.Vilsack wouldn’t start the project immediately, though. His proposal calls for starting the 99-county initiative in 2004
