A southeast Iowa sheriff hopes to raise awareness about “huffing.”Louisa County Sheriff Curt Braby says “huffing” is slang for inhaling some kind of chemical into your system, like gas fumes or paint solvents. It can cause brain damage, liver damage and even death. Braby has asked the Louisa County Board of Supervisors to pass an ordinance that says “huffing” is illegal. Since it’s not illegal, the sheriff has no recourse but to release people he’s caught huffing. By making it illegal in the county, Braby says he could get “huffers” into treatment before they cause themselves serious harm.
