Report says U-of-I top of list for drug arrests

January 25, 2002 By admin

A report says the University of Iowa had more drug arrests last year than -any- other public school in the nation. The Chronicle of Higher Education says the 205 drug arrests at the U-of-I was more than double the previous year. Penn State was second with 175 arrests, followed by Michigan State, Indiana and California-Berkeley. The numbers are -not- a worry for U-of-I public safety director Chuck Green.Green says the high arrest numbers don’t necessarily mean an increase in drug use at the Iowa City institution. He says the numbers could be tied to increased reporting, better reporting methods, advanced technology and more help from the public.
