D-O-T director says cuts won’t hurt snow plowing effort

January 29, 2002 By admin

The director of the Iowa D-O-T says if several inches of snow indeed falls this week, it’ll be the first test for the consolidation of D-O-T maintenance garages. The D-O-T closed 27 garages, saving 35-MILLION dollars per year. D-O-T director Mark Wandro doesn’t expect any problems. The state has over 900 snow plows — and didn’t get rid of a single plow in the reorganization. Wandro is hearing criticism from Iowans who live near the now-closed maintenance garages.Wandro says day in and day out, their snow removal will be unaffected. There are now 113 D-O-T maintenance garages in Iowa. Wandro testified this morning before a legislative committee.
