Hawkeyes drop out of rankings after continued losses

January 29, 2002 By admin

The Iowa Hawkeyes have fallen out of the nation’s top 25 this week after Saturday’s loss to Purdue. The 73-68 loss to the Boilermakers has the Hawkeyes at 3-5 at the midway point of the Big Ten race. On today’s Big Ten teleconference, Hawkeye coach Steve Alford said there were a number of reasons for the disappointing first half. He says they’ve never been in a good rhythm and haven’t been able to consistently guard people.Alford says the Hawkeyes are also committing far too many turnovers. Alford says he’s also doing a poor job of communicating to the players what he wants to accomplish.Alford says while the Hawks are inexperienced at point guard, that spot has not been the concern with turnovers.
