January 30, 2002 By admin

The mayor of Aledo, Illinois, will not go to jail for sex crimes allegedly committed in eastern Iowa.C.W. “Red” Stancliff was caught with a known prostitute in Davenport last November and charged with prostitution, an aggravated misdemeanor. He admitted to offering the woman money if she’d let him perform a sex act on her. Stancliff pleaded guilty yesterday in Scott County Court and will not go to jail or be fined. He will pay court costs. And, if he stays clean, thecharge will be removed from his record. Stancliff was both the mayor of Aledo and its fire chief when arrested. Fire department trustees demanded and got his resignation. But he has steadfastly refused demands from some council members and the public that he step down as mayor.
