Today is National Food Check Out Day. The U-S Department of Agriculture says today is the day that most Americans will have earned enough money to buy all the food they need for the entire year. Iowa Farm Bureau spokesman Aaron Putze says it’s a tribute to farmers that it takes only 39 days, and 10-point-six percent of someone’s income, to pay for a year’s supply of food. He says Americans sometimes take the cost of food for granted, as it once took as much as 25 percent of a person’s income to pay for their food. Putze ask Iowans to take today to think about the people who bring us our food. In comparison, the day in which Americans have earned enough money to pay their tax bill for the year, Tax Freedom Day, is still 111 days away on May 31st.
