Legislator wants to add new twist to "Red Light, Green Light"

February 8, 2002 By admin

A retired trooper who’s a legislator wants changes at Iowa’s stoplight intersections. Representative Dick Weidman of Griswold wants a green light to flash three times as a warning that’s it going to turn yellow. He says it’ll keep people from running red lights and he’d like to see it tried in some community. He says it’s better than cameras at intersections, because it wouldn’t cost anything. Weidman got the idea when he saw it done in Mexico.Weidman says people end up being surprised by a yellow light because they don’t know how long the light’s been green.
