Will you watch the Winter Olympics??

February 8, 2002 By admin

The Winter Olympics begin today in Salt Lake City, Utah, but how many people will be watching? U-N-I communications professor Chris Martin says having the games on U-S soil could lead to better viewership here than games that’re held in foreign countries, but he says that’s not always the case.Martin says the images and stories to come out of the games will continue the patriotic theme that’s been prevalent since September 11th.While the U-S is at war against terrorism, Martin says that effort probably won’t be that visible at the Olympics. He says it’s unlikely we’ll see battles between the U-S and Middle East athletes such as we saw between the Soviets and U-S during the cold war. The opening ceremonies for the games are tonight.
