The cash-starved state treasury got a half-million dollar boost today. Bridgestone-Firestone presented a check to the state of Iowa for $528,000. It’s a settlement the company agreed to pay in November for misrepresenting the safety, maintenance, use, life and wear patterns of its tires. Bridgestone-Firestone began recalling tires in August of 2000 after reports that tires failed suddenly, causing dangerous and fatal accidents.
