New rules look to clamp down on Iowa City parties

February 22, 2002 By admin

Iowa City residents who throw big parties may soon face new city rules. Iowa City officials are considering an ordinance which would require party permits. Iowa City residents would have to apply for a permit to hold a party, and tell city officials how many beer kegs would be tapped. Party-throwers would also have to tell the city how many guests they expect. Another proposed ordinance would ban indoor furniture from outdoor porches in Iowa City. Supporters say the rules would help crack down on out-of-control parties, while critics say the rules are unrealistic and unfairly target University of Iowa students.
