Governor Tom Vilsack’s pushing for a regional task force to discuss the state of electric transmission in the Midwest. Vilsack’s at the National Governors Association annual winter meeting, and yesterday when the Midwest Governors met, Iowa’s Governor suggested the nation’s 70-year-old electric transmission system needs a thorough once-over. Vilsack says ensuring safe, reliable and affordable energy is critical to economic development, and with an aging and inadequate electric transmission grid, Midwest states need to work together to develop a regional approach to the transmission of electricity. Vilsack says while federal regulators are reviewing the issue, it makes sense for states to have a role in determining where transmission lines are placed.
