The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is in the second phase of a survey trying to determine the types of stuff being released into Iowa’s air. D-N-R air quality specialist Brian Button says the survey began in eastern Iowa and is now underway in central Iowa.The survey involves estimating the amount of emissions being released from several sources. Button says they’ve also sent out emission inventory forms to 700 central Iowa businesses. Button says they hope to get a baseline reading on the emissions going into Iowa’s air.Button says the information will be used to help form a national plan for dealing with air pollution. Button says they’ve analyzed some of the information from eastern Iowa, specifically Scott County.Button’s surprised cars and truck accounted for over half the emissions that are released into the air. Button says most people believe factories are the overwhelming contributor to air pollution. Button says it’ll be awhile before the final report is ready.The D-N-R will move on to survey western Iowa once they’re finished in central Iowa.
