Proposed Newton speedway gets boost with promise of state funds

February 27, 2002 By admin

The proposed speedway in Newton appears to be picking up speed fueled by a promise for some state help. The Jasper County Board of Supervisors heard Tuesday from a consultant who is working on the project. Supervisor Pat Milligan says the news was encouraging. He says private investors have begun stepping forward now that the Vision Iowa Board has said they’ll give the project some money. Milligan says the private support is important in keeping the project moving. They hope to know soon how much Vision Iowa funding they’re getting, but if it’s not as much as they requested, they’ll need some private help. They’ve requested 20-million dollars from the Vision Iowa Board, and will soon enter negotiations to determine how much they’ll actually get.
