This week, legislators will consider a proposal first launched by a southern state’s Governor to rebuff democrats.In December, Arkansas’ republican Governor established a special state account Arkansas residents could make a deposit in — if they wanted to pay MORE taxes. The move was a response to a call from democrats to raise taxes to help ease that state’s budget situation. A few hundred dollars has trickled into the account since then, exactly the response the republican Governor wanted. Now, Iowa’s republican legislators are proposing a similar account in Des Moines to help prove their point Iowans don’t want to pay higher taxes.
