March 20, 2002 By admin

Kevin Van Otterloo has resigned as Kossuth County Sheriff.Van Otterloo submitted his resignation while meeting Tuesday with the Kossuth County supervisors. Mike Van Otterloo (his brother and the Plymouth County Sheriff) read a prepared statement for his brother Kevin, referring to an “error in judgment” in using a county credit card for personal items. Van Otterloo had worked as a deputy or sheriff for the last 22 years. Kossuth County Attorney Todd Holmes says there are no charges pending against Van Otterloo. He says he’ll evaluate the situation once he gets all the information. In an emotional statement, former Sheriff Kevin Van Otterloo thanked his deputies for their service. He told the media “you have no idea what they do and how good they are.” Van Otterloo went on a voluntary leave of absence last Friday. Kossuth County authorities say no charges have been filed against him.
