Western Community College bond issue fails again

March 27, 2002 By admin

Voters in southwest Iowa have once again rejected an Iowa Western Community College bond issue.Voters Tuesday soundly turned down the six-and-a-half-million dollar bond issue, 49-percent in favor, 51-percent against it. The measure needed 60-percent to pass. Just one of the seven counties in the Iowa Western region gave more than the 60-percent approval. The bond issue would have raised money for a new Cass County Center in Atlantic, and renovations and upgrades to the college’s campuses in Council Bluffs, Harlan and Shenandoah. Voters also turned down the measure last fall, and college officials say they don’t know if they’ll try again.
