Rain causes problems for Kernels opener

April 9, 2002 By admin

The Cedar Rapids Kernels hope to play their home opener tonight against the Quad City River Bandits, their first in new Veterans Stadium. The Kernels opener was rained out Sunday and general manager Jack Roeder does not mind the extra day to wait. The fans got their first look at the stadium yesterday before the game was called and Roeder says it is a more comfortable setting for everyone. He says the variety of seating goes from grass seating to diamond suites.Roeder says it has been gratifying to see the project come to completion. He says it seems like just yesterday that they were playing the last game in the old stadium.
