An eastern Iowa man will release his latest book on high school football this summer. Don Carpenter of Earlville will publish “Nightmares and Dreams: Iowa High School Football 2001-02”. It is his third book dealing with prep football. He wrote a book in 1995 after doing some short stories and a friend helped him write the books.Carpenter chose the title, saying it was a good year and rough year for schools that face challenges in consolidation and sharing. He says there will also be some change where some schools won’t be around. The book will also include essays about summer practice and camps and looks at the time spent by young Iowans to develop their skills. He says football is now a year-round program for the kids. The book reviews a number of regular season and playoff games from across the state and also looks at the eight-man version which Carpenter believes will continue to add schools.Carpenter is a native Iowan and attended Maquoketa Valley High School. The publication date for the book is July 1st. To order a copy you can e-mail [email protected].
