Newton student won’t return to class after attack

April 16, 2002 By admin

An autistic student in central Iowa will -not- be heading back to school anytime soon.School officials in Newton say an autistic student accused of assaulting two teachers will not return to school this spring. Officials say 13-year-old Evan Koons attacked a special education teacher and a teacher’s aide earlier this month. He’s charged with juvenile assault. Koons will be home schooled. School officials say the boy’s autism and attention deficit disorder were responsible for his behavior. Officials don’t know if Koons can return to school next school year.
