William Penn knocks out record for homers

April 16, 2002 By admin

The William Penn baseball team broke a school record for home runs over the weekend. The Statesmen have 48 round-trippers, which is one better than the previous mark set back in 1986. Penn coach Mike Laird knew coming into the season that his team would put some good numbers together. He says he felt they would have some good power this season and so far the team has lived up to the expectations. Laird says with a lot of power in the line-up, the Statesmen don’t try to manufacture a lot of runs. Like the slam-dunk in basketball, the home run has become the most popular aspect of baseball and Laird says that is reflected by the players.
