Rowley man killed after shoot out in Buchanan County

April 17, 2002 By admin

Police shot a northeast Iowa man to death Tuesday. Buchanan County law officers tried to serve a mental health commitment pickup order on 42-year-old John Campbell of Rowley yesterday afternoon. Campbell refused to comply with officers and fled into a wooded area near Independence. The chase lasted about four hours. Campbell reportedly fired a 12-gauge shotgun at deputies. They returned fire and killed him. The Iowa D-C-I is investigating.
