Accident leads to death and grass fire

Scott County authorities say one highway death and a grass fire are linked to a one-car crash. A Walcott motorist is dead as a result of an early-morning crash two miles west of Eldridge. 48-year-old Ernie Meyer was a well-known real-estate salesman. He apparently was westbound when his car left the road and crashed. He died at the scene. A deputy sheriff discovered the crash about 3-30 this morning, when a resident reported a grass fire. debris from the crash apparently started the fire.
