Latham votes for tougher abortion law

April 18, 2002 By admin

Iowa Congressman Tom Latham was among those who voted Wednesday for a tougher new law regulating abortions. Latham says the measure would make it a federal crime for an adult other than a parent to accompany a pregnant minor across state lines for an abortion.Latham, a republican from Alexander, says it’s totally inappropriate to have a third party transporting a child to have a major medical procedure. He says he believes in the sanctity of human life and says it isn’t right to have someone else involved just to avoid state law. The House has now voted three times in favor of this bill, called the Child Custody Protection Act, but it has never been taken up in the Senate.
