Though nothing is expected to be accomplished in today’s special session of the state legislature, Iowa lawmakers are required by law to show up, even if it’s to turn around and leave. Representative Danny Carroll, a republican from Grinnell, says there’s a provision in the House rules called a “call of the House,” which has only been used a few times in recent history. A state trooper can be sent to round up lawmakers if needed. There has been no head count reported yet in either chamber, but there are also no reports of any legislators having to be rounded up by troopers.
