Iowa woman seeks to boost morale of cancer survivors with book

April 27, 2002 By admin

A Mason City woman has written an inspirational book about her recovery from cancer. Ruth Foat penned “Miracle Lady on the Sixth Floor” to prove things can get better after life seems unbearable. She wanted others to have the hope that they can survive and cope. Foat says her story begins after a year of nursing her own mother through illness, when she was diagnosed with cancer and overwhelmed with trouble. She had a hysterectomy and other medical problems, her daughter got divorced, her mother was hit by a truck and a doctor told her to see a grief counselor. Foat says she wanted to share the hope she found, something that she says is lacking in the information given to cancer patients. She says you hear alot about the bad things, and not much about the good.Foats says cancer patients need a positive attitude to help them get through the whole ordeal. She says positive emotions can help go through the physical demands. Foats helped her husband minister to churches throughout the country for thirty years before retiring. Her book Miracle Lady on the Sixth Floor is available from FirstBooks Library.
