Iowa delegation splits 3-2 on Farm Bill

May 2, 2002 By admin

Three Iowa Congressmen — democrat Leonard Boswell and republicans Jim Leach and Jim Nussle — voted in favor of the final version of the Farm Bill when it came up for a vote earlier today in the U-S House. The other two Iowa Congressmen, Greg Ganske and Tom Latham — both republicans, voted no. Also today, the President said he’d sign the bill into law. In a statement issued by the White House press secretary, President Bush said he was “pleased” with the final version of the Farm Bill. He singled out the conservation measures in the bill for praise, calling ’em the strongest ever. Bush said the final provisions in the bill are “consistent with international trade obligations”. While Bush wasn’t pleased with all parts of the bill, he said it will provide a “generous and reliable safety net for our Nation’s farmers and ranchers.”
