With winter behind us now, the Hawkeye State is launching a campaign to market itself as a destination for tourists. Nancy Landess, administrator of the Iowa Tourism division, says studies find people are using their cars more for trips instead of airplanes since the attacks of nine-eleven. Landess says people are staying closer to home too. She says the trend even before September 11th was toward shorter and more frequent trips closer to home. This is Iowa Tourism Month and Landess’ office has launched a multi-million dollar marketing campaign in Iowa and out-of-state cities including Chicago, the Twin Cities, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Kansas City and elsewhere.
