Elderly Iowans living on a limited income could find help with things like property tax and rent-reimbursement programs. Attorney Scott Hartsook with the Legal Hotline for Older Iowans explains they can call for tips and legal advice, free.It’s a free service for Iowans 60 and over on legal matters as long as they aren’t criminal cases. Getting the property tax credit or rent help could be as simple as applying, he says. The hotline also helps many older Iowans with end-of-life issues. He says the hotline can help them plan a will or health-care directive, or plan how you can pay for care in a nursing home. The hotline can also find resources that will help pay heating, medical or nursing home bills. The Legal Hotline for Older Iowans is 1-800-992-8161.
