May 6, 2002 By admin

Three Iowa Conference schools will compete in an N-C-A-A division three softball regional in Pella this weekend. League champion Central received the automatic bid while second-place Coe and third-place Wartburg received at-large berths. Coe coach Bob Timmons felt the conference would get at least one at-large bid, and he felt his team would get it for their second place finish.Timmons says the national tournament was a pre-season goal for his team.Wartburg coach Randy Schneider says getting two at-large berths says a lot for the Iowa Conference. He says getting the opportunity to play in the tourney says a lot about the past history of the conference.Schneider says he did not like his team’s chances of getting in after a third-place finish, although he felt they played a tough schedule.
