Iowa City bar owner looking to sell in the face of sanctions

May 7, 2002 By admin

The owner of an Iowa City bar that’s facing city sanctions for a burning booze stunt is trying to sell the establishment.Nine people were injured at the Etcetera bar when employees set the drink rail on fire in a stunt on April 18th. 26-year-old bar manager, Troy Klein of Coralville, is charged with reckless use of fire and the bar is charged with having an open flame device in a drinking establishment. City officials have asked the state Alcoholic Beverages Division to file additional sanctions against the bar. Owner Kip Pohl says he plans to sell in 30 days. City officials say the sanctions would not carry over if the liquor license is transferred to a new owner.
