Des Moines man charged in bicycle hit-and-run death

May 13, 2002 By admin

Authorities in central Iowa say a bicycle rider was killed in a hit-and-run accident over the weekend and a suspect is in custody. The Highway Patrol says 32-year-old Michael Anderson of Des Moines was riding his bike Saturday afternoon near the town of Baxter in Jasper County, north of Newton. Troopers say Anderson was hit by a vehicle which left the scene, was badly injured and died Sunday at a hospital in Des Moines. An investigation led the state Patrol to arrest 32-year-old Patrick Cupples of Des Moines. Authorities believe Cupples was behind the wheel of the S-U-V that struck and killed the cyclist.
