Wartbug returns to NCAA tourney

May 14, 2002 By admin

Wartburg will return to the N-C-A-A division-three baseball regionals this week in Monmouth, Illinois. The Knights were declared Iowa Conference champions over the weekend after the rain-shortened Conference tournament in Waterloo. Wartburg coach Joel Holst says they won 13 of their last 14 ballgames, including 11 conference games, and he says it’s great to move on.It’s the sixth-straight conference title for Wartburg’s Knights and Holst is banking on the experience. He says his staff is well prepared to get the team ready for the regional with all their past experience. The other three teams in the regional are not strangers. Carthage has been in the regional five of the last six years and Holst says it’s the same with top-seeded Aurora.
