An Iowa group is looking for more families who’re interested in helping kids. The Iowa Foster and Adoptive Parents Association is highlighting the need for more foster parents during May — which is “National Foster Care Month.” Association executive director Lynhon Stout says there are about 45-hundred children in foster care in Iowa, and only 23-hundred licensed foster families. She says ideal foster parents have a desire to help kids. They’re people who love children, have some experience in parenting, or are willing to undergo training to learn how to parent kids. Stout says it takes about 90-days to go through the training and background checks needed to become certified as a foster family. Stout says foster families provide a place for the children until they can return to a permanent home. She says it used to be that the children would “linger” in foster care, but the view is now that they need a permanent family. For more information on foster care, call 800-277-8145.
