Davenport man faces charges in son’s death

May 16, 2002 By admin

An eastern Iowa father may be charged today with murder in the beating death of his son.26-year-old Jeramy Essary of Davenport was arrested Wednesday on a variety of charges including child endangerment, domestic assault and assault on a police officer. Essary is accused of beating his son, 16-month-old Niqolus, who was taken to a Davenport hospital Wednesday. Doctors say the child was unresponsive and couldn’t be revived. An autopsy is scheduled. The father, Essary, is accused of beating the boy, his wife, an earlier assault on a neighbor, and of trying to kick the officer who arrested him. The Quad City Times reports Essary pleaded guilty to child endangerment charges in 1994 for breaking the leg of his three-week-old daughter and bruising the baby’s face in March 1993.
