Survey shows business top choice for private college grads

May 21, 2002 By admin

A survey of 2001 graduates from Iowa private colleges and universities shows business, health and education are their top three choices for careers. Kathleen Gannon is spokesperson for the Iowa Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, which represents 29 schools in Iowa.Gannon says the trend just a few years ago showed education as the top career choice, and that’s now slipped to third. Gannon says there are a lot of things that steer students to particular career choices. She says salary, availability, trends and class interest drive the decisions. She says 70-percent of the students stayed in Iowa after graduating. She says that number has held pretty steady around 69 to 70 percent. The survey included just over 86-hundred graduates from the 29 schools.
