Convicted rapist plans appeal

May 22, 2002 By admin

A former Los Angeles comedian convicted Monday in Scott County of kidnapping and raping a former St. Ambrose University student in 1997 will appeal. Vinson Champ was found guilty of first-degree kidnapping, second-degree sexual abuse and simple assault. He will be sentenced June 5th. But his attorney, David Treimer, says he is disappointed the jury found Champ guilty of kidnapping and will appeal after sentencing. Treimer says the kidnapping charge should be overturned because Champ’s alleged actions don’t meet the legal definition of the crime.
