Tama City Council approves plan for beef plant

May 22, 2002 By admin

Tama city leaders have approved a plan with Iowa Quality Beef to re-open the Tama Beef packing plant. According to city documents, Iowa Quality Beef will pay 100-thousand dollars to take over the lease of the plant from the city. The company will then pay two million dollars by August for the building and surrounding land. The re-opening of the plant will create 400 jobs — double the number of people working when the plant closed.
