UNI takes on top seed in MVC tourney

May 22, 2002 By admin

The U-N-I baseball team will take on Wichita State tonight in opening round action of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament in Wichita, Kansas. Wichita State is the top-seeded team in the tourney, while UNI is the sixth seed. Panther coach Rick Heller says winning the first game is important.Last year, U-N-I surprised everyone by winning the Valley tournament. Heller feels it helps that his team has been in this situation before, and so does already getting a victory over the Shockers this season. The Shockers won the Valley regular season title by going 23-9. Overall, W-S-U is 42-14. U-N-I went 14-18 in the conference and is 29-23 overall. First pitch is at 7:00.
